Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

Each year, we welcome new members to the Catholic Church and the Blessed Trinity Parish community through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA).

No one is born Catholic; we become Catholic through the sacrament of Baptism.  Each fall, the RCIA program brings together a group of adults who are unbaptized (catechumens) or baptized in another Christian denomination (candidates for full communion) to be confirmed in the Catholic Church and be members of the Body of Christ; the Catholic Church established by Jesus.

Through this nine (9) month program, led by lay leaders, the catechumens and candidates for full communion receive instruction, guidance, and support on their faith journey while learning the tenets of Catholicism.  The goal of the RCIA program is not to teach everything there is to know about the Catholic faith and Scripture but rather to open the catechumen and the candidate's eyes to God's divinely inspired Scripture and deepen their relationship with Jesus as they continue on their journey of faith.

The sacrament of Baptism or the reception into the church for those already baptized usually takes place at the Easter Vigil.
