Matrimony (Wedding)

A perfect marriage is an imperfect husband and an imperfect wife who absolutely refuse to give up on one another.  The main purpose of a sacramental marriage is to help get one another into Heaven.

Marriage is a sacred covenant between the spouses AND between them and God.   It's important to understand that the Church sees marriage as a covenant and not as a contract.  A covenant is an exchange of persons;  a contract can be broken, but a covenant is irrevocable. It’s permanent.

In making Marriage a sacrament, Jesus gave it a new meaning, a new beauty, and a new power of sanctifying.   Marriage is now not merely the lawful union of husband and wife;  it is a source of holiness, a means of a closer union of each spouse with God as well as with each other.  The union of husband and wife in Marriage is therefore a mirror or a symbol of the union of Christ and his Church.  (Life in Christ, Fr. Gerard Weber and Fr. James Killgallon)

Sacramental Preparation for Matrimony

A couple wishing to marry should contact the parish at least one (1) year prior to the anticipated date of the wedding. Couples are required to engage in a marriage preparation process provided or arranged by the parish.  Such preparation allows the couple to come to a deeper knowledge of each other and of the sacrament they will receive, including the reasons for its indissolubility.

Your marriage is an important part of your life and growth as a follower of Jesus. Together, we will help you reflect on your understanding of Christian marriage, so that you can enter into this commitment to God and to each other well prepared. The process begins with an initial interview, and addresses your faith experience, your relationship as a couple, and your understanding of Christian marriage. There are documents to be assembled and some pre-nuptial papers to be completed.
